Park Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

OFFICE HOURS

Our office is open every day from 7:30am-8pm.

During peak times of the year, we have extended office hours of 7am-9pm daily. Peak times include 20th December – 7th February, Easter Weekend, and Labour Weekend.

CHECK IN & CHECK OUT

Check-in time is 1pm onwards for sites and 2pm onwards for units & cabins.
Check-out time for all guests is 10am.

If you are likely to arrive after office hours, please contact reception to organise an after hours check in pack.

Outside of peak times, guests who have booked a campsite can request a 5pm check out for an additional $25 per site (subject to availability). Please ask at reception if you would like to take advantage of this option. 

ENTRY & EXIT

You must scan your key fob when entering the park so the computer can allow your access. Please wait till the gate is fully up before moving or the gate may come down on your vehicle, do not use your fob for anyone else or it won’t work for you. Fobs must be used for both entry and exit. Otherwise they will get out of sync and will not work. Strictly one vehicle per site/cabin.

Barrier arms are locked from 10.30pm - 6.30am every day. Guests’ gate access key fobs will only work within these hours. For vehicle access in and out of the camp outside of the hours listed above, please see reception.

NO SMOKING

The entire camp ground is a smoke free and vape free zone. This means guests will not be able to smoke or vape in any part of the camp ground. Additional charges will be made for additional cleaning and maintenance costs incurred as a result of failure to observe this policy.  

PETS

Unfortunately we are not permitted to allow pets on site at any time. We are situated right next to the Waipu Wildlife Refuge, which is home to the New Zealand fairy tern (New Zealand's most endangered indigenous breeding bird) and a number of other protected birds. 

Disability Assistance dogs are permitted with appropriate supporting documentation provided prior to arrival.

PEAK TIMES

During our Peak Times, minimum stays and peak rates do apply. Peak Times include the Summer period from 20th December - 7th February each year, as well as Easter Weekend and Labour Weekend.

PARKING

Only one vehicle is allowed to park at each site/cabin. No parking on empty sites or driveways. Day visitors are not allowed to park in the campground.

Additional vehicles may be parked in the overflow parking areas at the entrance and to the North of the campground entrance; or on the road or public parking areas nearby. During the peak summer period, windscreen stickers must be displayed and the one car per site/cabin rule is strictly enforced.

BOAT PARKING

Boat parking is ideally within your campsite, otherwise under the direction of management in our designated boat parking areas. No boats may be stored at the campground over the winter (between Easter and Labour Weekend).

BOOKINGS & CANCELLATIONS

HOW TO BOOK

Bookings can be made online, via email, over the phone, or in person at the office.

ACCOUNTS & DEPOSITS

A deposit is required to confirm all reservations. The deposit amount will be either $250, or 50% of the booking value (whichever is less). Deposits must be paid within 14 days of making a booking, or at the time of making the booking if it falls within the 14 days.  Bookings must be paid in full no later than 72 hours prior to arrival.

Payment must be made for the full time booked. There is no reduction for early departure or late arrival. For Christmas, New Year, holiday periods and weekends, a minimum stay is required.

Management reserves the right to alter tariffs without notice. All tariffs are reviewed annually.

CANCELLATIONS

PLEASE NOTE: A cancellation fee of $20 applies to all cancelled bookings.

Cancellations made 31 days or more before arrival date will be refunded, minus the $20 cancellation fee.

Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to arrival, but no later than 24 hours prior, will receive a refund (minus cancellation fee) provided the site/unit can be re-let for entire duration of your booking.

Cancellations less than 24 hours prior to arrival will not be refunded. There are no refunds for early departures, including due to bad weather. There are no refunds for cancellations due to weather. 

AGE POLICY

The following age ranges apply for Adults, Children and Infants when booking:

  • Adults: Age 15+ years)
  • Child: Age 3-14 years)
  • Infant: Age 0-2 years)

Guests under the age of 18 are welcome to stay, provided they are accompanied by an adult (18 years or over) for the entire duration of their stay.  Bookings must be made by the adult staying. A $200 behaviour bond may also be required for groups. Management reserves the right to decline any booking at their discretion.

MINIMUM STAYS

Minimum stays apply during peak times as follows:

  • During Peak Summer Period (20 December – 7 February): A minimum stay of 4 nights in units/cabins and 7 nights on sites applies, unless we are filling a shorter gap between other bookings.
  • During Easter Weekend: A minimum stay of 4 nights applies to all accommodation and sites.
  • During Labour Weekend: A minimum stay of 3 nights applies to all accommodation and sites.

If you would like a shorter stay during any peak period, feel free to contact our office to discuss availability.

MAXIMUM STAYS

Between 1st April – 31st October, guests can stay a maximum of 28 nights at a time. Guests must then vacate the camp for a total of 28 nights before being allowed back for another booking.

Between 1st November – 31st March, guests are allowed to stay at the park for a maximum of 28 nights altogether during this time, even if across multiple stays.

 

PEAK SUMMER BOOKINGS

PEAK SUMMER PERIOD

Our Peak Summer period is from 20th December - 7th February each year.  During this time we have minimum night stays in place for camp sites and cabins.  Camp site bookings must be 7 nights minimum and cabin bookings 4 nights minimum, unless we can fill a shorter gap. General bookings open on the 7th March each year, availability will be live up until 20th December the following year.

SUMMER REBOOKING POLICY

Guests with cabin bookings of 4 nights or more or camp site bookings of 7 nights or more between 20 December – 7 February have the first option to re-book the same cabin/site for the same dates the following year. Guests will be required to complete a rebooking form to be returned to the office. Deposits are required within 14 days of the booking creation. 

If you are eligible for preferential booking, it is your responsibility to rebook prior to the cut off date (28th February) as we do not automatically rebook preferential bookings. If you have handed in your rebooking form and have not received notification of your new booking by 10th February please contact us.

NEW SUMMER BOOKINGS

Guests who wish to book in for our Peak Summer period can make new bookings from 7th March onward. Guests are able to book their summer holiday via our website on 7th March from 7am. Bookings made are on a first in first served basis, bookings are not confirmed until you have completed payment at check out (when booking via the website).  All confirmed bookings will receive a booking confirmation via email.

PAYMENT PLANS FOR SUMMER BOOKINGS

Payment plans are available for bookings made via our website. Bookings must be a minimum of $250 to qualify for the payment plan option. This allows guests to pay their bookings off throughout the year. You will be given options of Weekly, Fortnightly and Monthly payments at check out.

ACCOMMODATION

MAINTENANCE

To help us with our maintenance, please notify us of any breakages, spills or faulty equipment.

LINEN

All linen is supplied in our cabins (Self-contained and Kitchen Cabins); however, as these are not serviced units, if you require additional linen and/or towels please see reception.

Fold out couch beds come with sheets and A blanket already on them. additional blankets and pillows are located in the room/cupboard.

DISHES

We would appreciate it if you could wash your dishes before checking out of cabins.

STORAGE

Please store bicycles, surfboards, kayaks and other large sporting equipment outside of cabins. If you are concerned about security, please ask reception to store your equipment in one of our locked buildings.

CAMPSITES

CARAVANS

Our power supply to powered sites is 16 amps. All campers, caravans and motor homes connecting to our power outlets must hold and display a current electrical warrant of fitness and comply with LPG standard (NZS5428 1996). Any caravan or campervan left vacant overnight (or longer) during your stay, must be unplugged from the camps power supply to adhere to our fire safety policy.

You must also provide own waste water container, you must not let your waste water run on the ground as this is prohibited.

There is to be only one caravan and one awning per site i.e. if you have an awning, no tents.

TENTS

Our power supply to sites is 16 amps. All tents connecting to our power outlets must use an approved isolating transformer or RCD safety switch with Reyrolle plug, with a current AS/NZS3760 test tag. A limited number of these are available for hire at the office - $20 hire + $80 refundable bond.

SITE SIZES

Our average site size is 8m x 8m, but please contact us when booking if your vehicle or camping set-up will occupy more than 6m x 6m, so we can be sure your site is a suitable size.

SITE SETBACKS

For fire safety reasons, all motorhomes/caravans/tents must be placed with a 1.5m setback from boundaries with other sites, to give a 3m gap between campers on adjacent sites.

DUMP STATION / CHEMICAL TOILETS

Chemical toilets and waste water may only be emptied into the dump station, which is located in the centre of the campground (see map).

For health reasons:

  • Do not remove the hose attached to the dump station or use it for any other purpose
  • Wash away any spillage immediately
  • After disposal of waste water, wash hands thoroughly with soap provided.

PARKING

Only one vehicle per site permitted. No parking on empty sites or driveways. Extra vehicles must be parked in the car park at the entrance or at the northern car park.

SAFETY

EMERGENCY

For Police, Fire or Ambulance, dial 111 from your cell phone, or 1-111 from the office phone (if reception staff are not available).

If there is an emergency during office hours, please visit the office or call 09 432 0410 to inform the duty manager. After hours, please use the handset outside the office door to contact the after-hours duty manager.

FIRE SAFETY

Open fires, including charcoal BBQs and braziers are not permitted within the camp/reserve or beach areas.

Fireworks are strictly prohibited at all times within the campground, on the adjacent reserve and on the beach in front of the campground.

All caravans/tents must be placed on site to give a 3m gap between tents/caravans, no exceptions. Caravans and campervans cannot be plugged into the camps power supply if the guest is off site for 24 hours or longer.

TSUNAMI SIREN

In the event of the Tsunami siren being activated, you will hear a continuous high pitched siren alarm.  This will sound if there is a risk of Tsunami in the area.  If you hear this siren, please prepare yourself to evacuate immediately.  Please follow all instructions from staff.  Guests on foot will be directed to St Anne Road (approx 100m from the camp entrance - turn right out of camp front entrance and St Anne Road is your first left).  Those in vehicles may continue on Cove Road and turn onto Cullen Road (exit out of the camp and turn right, second street on left hand side is Cullen Road).

Please note: There is Tsunami Siren testing twice annually, both at the beginning and end of Daylight savings. Camp staff will notify you of when this is taking place if it is during your stay.

DAMAGE & BREAKAGES

To help us keep our grounds, facilities and cabins in tip-top condition and safe for everyone, please notify us immediately of any breakages, spills or faulty equipment.

VEHICLE SPEED

vehicle speed is DEAD SLOW. Please drive at walking pace (5KM/H). Speeding or dangerous driving could lead to your car being denied entry. Gate tags in use over peak times.

CHILDREN

Parents please supervise and control your children. You are responsible for your children’s safety at all times. No skateboarding allowed in the campground. NO bikes or scooters to be ridden on concrete around ablution blocks or over gardens. Bikes to be ridden during daylight hours only.

BARRIER ARMS

When using entering and leaving the campground via the barrier arms at the main entrance, for your safety and the safety of others:

  • ONE VEHICLE ONLY to go through when the barrier arm is raised
  • Ensure the barrier is FULLY RAISED before driving through
  • DO NOT WALK OR CYCLE under the barrier arms when they are raised or moving

Failure to observe the above could result in serious damage or injury as a result of the barrier hitting you or your vehicle.

PADDLING POOLS

For safety reasons, paddling pools are not permitted in the campground.

BIKES & SCOOTERS

Bikes and scooters may be used in the campground, to be ridden during daylight hours only. This means no later than 9pm during summer. Bikes are to be ridden at a sensible speed. Helmets MUST be worn at all times. No riding on concrete around ablution blocks or over gardens.

SKATEBOARDS

No skateboarding is allowed in the campground.

CONDUCT & NOISE

To ensure all our guests have a great holiday, we expect common sense and consideration to be shown at all times to other guests. The management reserves the right to refuse admission and to remove from the campground any person who in their opinion does not conduct themselves in a decent and reasonable manner. No refund will be made in such circumstances. The playing of loud music or audible devices is  discouraged. If a disturbance is caused to other campers, you may be asked to desist. All noise to cease at 11pm 7 days a week. If returning to the camp late at night, please remember others are sleeping. If gates are locked you have to park outside the camp.

VISITORS

Day visitors are allowed at the discretion of management and are your responsibility at all times. All day visitors must register at reception before entering the campground and must depart by 10pm. Day visitors are not allowed to park inside the campground.

LIQUOR

Liquor may only be consumed on your site or in your unit, not around the campground or taken into amenities blocks.

During the peak Summer Period (including Christmas), liquor bans often apply at Waipu Cove. The provisions and infringements provided for under this law will be on display on camp notice boards. The day reserve at the southern end of the camp and the grass strip on the beach front from the surf club to northern camp boundary is alcohol free, and closed to everyone from 10pm – 7am.

DAMAGE

Cost of damage to property or accommodation units will be recovered.

LOST PROPERTY

Lost property is kept for one month, then disposed of. If you have lost an item, please contact the campground office as soon as possible.

Camp Waipu Cove shall not be responsible for any loss, theft or damage of any property for any reason regardless of the cause. Including any fault pertaining to any fitting, appliance or piece of apparatus within the vicinity of the camping ground.

FIREWORKS

Fireworks are not permitted within the campground or reserve all year round.

WATER

Our water supply is metered and is a precious resource, especially during the summer months. Please conserve water at all times – turn off taps when not in use; no water bombs/balloons, slides, pistols or other water toys; and no washing of cars.

For safety and water conservation reasons, paddling pools are not permitted in the campground.

FACILITIES & SERVICES

PLAYGROUNDS

There are two playgrounds situated within the campground. Hours of use are 7.30am – 9pm.

BBQ AREAS

Free electric BBQs are located in all amenities blocks. Please leave it SAFE and CLEAN for the next guest.

There are also BBQs on the day reserve at the southern end of our Waipu Cove camping ground (this is the beachfront public area that is also maintained by Camp Waipu Cove). Sorry, no open flamed BBQ's allowed, gas only.

FOOD & DRINK

There is a dairy (small grocery store) located 200m from Camp Waipu Cove, where you can buy everything from fruit and vegetables to hot fish and chips. The dairy also sells fresh bread, milk and other grocery items, along with cold drinks, ice creams, potato chips etc.

The Cove Cafe & Restaurant is a short walk (within 400m) from Camp Waipu Cove and serves a great selection of food (open daily 9am - 9pm, open 8am - late over summer).

RUBBISH & RECYCLING

We have provided rubbish and recycling areas throughout the park. Please help us to help the environment and use the right bin for rubbish, recycling, and paper/cardboard. Thank you.

LAUNDRY

Each of our three ablutions blocks includes a 24-hour self-serve laundry with washing tubs. Machines operate using rechargeable cards which can be purchased in the laundry (Eftpos, Debit or Credit card required to purchase). Washing powder dispensers are also available in all laundry rooms.

Costs are as follows:

  • Initial cost for the card is $4 (refundable on departure)
  • Hot or Cold wash $4
  • Dryer (45mins) $4.
  • Washing powder ($2 per box, approx. 2 washes)

There are also outdoor washing lines provided for guest use.

TV & ALL WEATHER MEETING ROOM

A great place to relax when the weather isn't so great! 50-inch TV with Sky and Sky Sport, plus a selection of books, toys and games for young and old. No food or drinks allowed. No food or drink to be consumed in this area. Access from 7.30am daily.

INTERNET

Free WIFI is available throughout the camp ground, you will be given your unique code upon arrival. Allocation is 10GB for 7 days, on up to 5 devices.

SPORTS COURT

Bookings must be made at camp office, hours of use 9am – 8pm, tennis racquets are available free to use, packet of tennis balls available to purchase at reception. Maximum booking time 1 hour.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING

A fee of $20 per charge applies regardless of the charging time. Please pay this fee at reception before charging.

GAS BOTTLES

Gas bottle swaps are available offsite at the Waipu General Store located 200m from the camp entrance. Gas bottle fills can be done at the G.A.S station in Waipu Town.

ICE

Ice is available from the Waipu Cove General store all year round.

LOST PROPERTY

Lost property is kept for one month, then disposed of. If you have lost an item, please contact the campground office as soon as possible.

A card phone is situated in front of Waipu Cove General Store, approximately 150m from the camp entrance.
